Innovation is part of who we are, and the original ZX-1 was one of the first monocoque carbon fibre race bikes back when it launched in 1991. It took the scene by storm with advanced manufacturing methods that allowed designers to push the aerodynamic boundaries, creating a truly unique bike.
Today, the ZX-1 continues to be a performance race-ready road bike. Utilising Kamm Tail tube profiles, and an integrated fork and seat post, the Vitus designers have enhanced aerodynamics without compromise. An asymmetric and oversized BB386EVO BB helps to maximise drive and overall lateral stiffness. With the use of multiple carbon fibre layups, Vitus has maintained a balanced power transfer on the drive and non-drive sides of the bike whilst under pedalling load.
The ZX-1 features flat-mount brakes, and 12mm axles front and rear, with the wheels being kept securely in place with the Vitus aero thru-axles. These thru-axles feature a removable lever, which can be left in either wheel or removed for aero benefits.
The result is a comfortable race bike, that maintains stiffness and crosswind stability.
The UCI approved frameset has been raced by UCI Continental Pro cycling team Vitus Pro Cycling p/b Brother UK, featuring heavily in breakaways at the 2019 Tour De Yorkshire, and stage wins in the UK’s Tour Series criterium series. Component specification across all ZX-1 models feature many parts raced by the team.
The ZX-1 TEAM eTap Disc is directly inspired by the race-winning bikes of Vitus Pro Cycling and is fitted with the same SRAM Red eTap AXS HRD 12 speed groupset, a brand-new innovation from SRAM. Featuring industry-leading technology and features, Red eTap AXS sits at the top of the SRAM performance tree. It gives you every possible benefit from a wireless electronic groupset- modern gearing, advanced chain management, and easy personalization.
Wireless electronic shifting and hydraulic disc braking offers the best of both worlds at this advanced level. Red eTap AXS rear derailleur capitalizes on X-Range gearing technology for enhanced range and chain management. Combined with carbon cranks and SRAM’s new Flattop chain, this the most technologically advanced bike Vitus ever. We’ve come a long way since Sean Kelly was conquering Europe on his Vitus in the 1980’s!
Race-proven and UCI Approved, DT Swiss ARC 1400 tubeless-ready wheels feature a 62mm deep aero rim section. This is combined with a wider rim profile to create a more linear contour between the tyre and rim interface. Pairing these with Schwalbe One Performance RaceGuard Tubeless 25c tyres maximises aero gains and comfort. Working seamlessly with the SRAM eTap AXS HRD groupset, the DT Swiss wheels use an XD-R freehub body, allowing for the 12 speed SRAM cassette with 10 tooth cog.
The cockpit utilises Prime’s Primavera Carbon aero handlebars, as raced by Vitus Pro Cycling. The bars feature an aggressive aerodynamic shape with a large flat ‘wing’ aero top section and internal cable routing. The performance-orientated 3D forged, and CNC machined, Prime Doyenne aero stem, adds sleek design and features an integrated aero top cap.
The ZX-1 CRX e-Tap is finished off with the award-winning Prologo Dimension saddle combining comfort, performance, and lightness. The combination of a short nose and PAS system ensures comfort even in an aerodynamic position.
