Wilson takes second in PJ Logan Cup

Local rider Jack Wilson who has just signed for An Post Chain Reaction Cycles Team takes on the best of the local talent at the PJ Logan Cup race.

Back from racing duties in Belgium with the An Post – Chain Reaction team, Vitus Bikes Pro rider Jack Wilson made his way to a sprint finish at Sunday’s PJ Logan Cup in Coalisland, Northern Ireland.

With the constant threat of snow, the race took place in harsh conditions with the temperature staying little above freezing. Needless to say racing was fast and frantic perhaps to allow the peloton to get in out of the cold!

Three laps in and with hard riding by the A1 bunch they had closed the 2min 30sec gap to the A3 riders. Despite numerous kicks from Paul McCarter (Omagh Wheelers) and Mark Downey (Nicholas Roche Professional Team) Jack Wilson and Mark Buchanan (North Pole) broke away to dominate the race. The leaders opened up a lead of almost two minutes which they held to the finish. In the sprint for the line it was Buchanan who managed to take the win and bring the PJ Logan Cup to Donegal for the first time.

“I went to the PJ Logan as part of a training block for the Nation Cup races in the next couple of weeks. I didn’t know what to expect as I had been sick with a stomach bug all week. When we set of my legs felt pretty good so we started riding to bring the front group back. Once it all came together a small group of riders got away and we started riding to extend our lead. After a lap Mark and I went clear of the break and soon got a good gap. I made a number of moves to try to get clear of mark but he was too strong at the finish. Always good to be racing back home none the less”
