Vitus in Cycling Weekly’s 50 Greatest bikes of all time
We're proud to see that the Vitus 979 aluminium road bike has featured in Cycling Weekly magazine's '50 greatest bikes of all time' round-up.
We're proud to see that the Vitus 979 aluminium road bike has featured in Cycling Weekly magazine's '50 greatest bikes of all time' round-up.
The list of 'greatest bikes' was compiled from bicycle models produced in the last 121 years ñ the length of time the magazine has been in production ñ and explains that the Vitus 979 led the way for modern-day aluminium road bikes with the company's use of 979 Duralumin tubing:
"[Dural] was light and a lot stiffer than the old [aluminium] frames. The tubes were still bonded, but they butted directly up to the lugs, and design tweaks like a one-piece head tube and lug unit increased frame stiffness.
The lugged aluminium bikes are classics now, thanks in part to 'King' Kelly."
