Matthew Adair this weekend competed in the Irish National XC Champs in Lurgan Park and took him the title of Irish Junior Champion. Here’s what Matti had to say about the event
"In the days leading up to the race I was feeling good and looking forward to the race. The race was 5 laps of the lurgan park circuit and the juniors were set of 2 minutes behind the main senior race, in the morning of the race the ground was frozen and was looking like a quick race until after the MTB support race had loosened the ground and made it muddy. The juniors race began at 1 o’clock and from the off I started to pull out a gap and after the first lap had a gap of around 40 seconds which continued to grow over the next few laps.
By the end of 3 laps I knew bar disaster that I would have the junior title. I continued to push on hard and see how far I could get up to in the senior positions and going into the finial lap 2nd and 3rd senior rider were just ahead so I pushed hard and caught them so coming into the finish and with 150 meters to the finish what could possibly go wrong……. well a lot it seems, gears jammed and snapped of the rear mech as well as breaking a spoke. So a bad finish to an otherwise good race but a good start to 2011 with a national title and jersey."
