Vitus Rider Matthew Adair took part in the Dromore road races at the weekend. Here’s his round-up of the race.
"With a break in the MTB season I decided to take part in the Dromore road races. This course is usually very hard with almost all of the course going up or down with hardly any flat sections. I was racing in the 3rd cat race and there was 6 laps of the tough circuit and a race distance of just under 60 miles. On the first two laps I sat in the bunch and done little on the front with the strong winds making it harder.
On the 3rd lap a few attacks went and I got into a few of these but they didn’t get too far with the strong winds. On the next two laps the tough course took its toll on the field and was soon whittled down to the stronger riders. On the 2nd last lap a attack went with about five riders and I was in this group but we had a lot of work to do to catch 2 riders who had snuck away on the 3rd lap. The finial lap two of the riders in my group attacked up the finishing hill and split the group so I ended up riding the most of my last lap on my own trying to catch the leaders but I couldn’t. Coming down towards the finish I cramped and got caught by other riders. In the end I think I finished in the top 15 which I was happy enough with considering many riders didn’t finish at all. "
