Vitus Bikes ambassador Colin Ross faced adversity in the lead up to the Masters World Championships in Andorra but silenced any doubts he may have had with a blistering race run to be crowned the M35-40 Downhill World Champion.
We had a few questions for him on his win;
VB – First of all congratulations from everyone at Vitus Bikes. How does it feel to be World Champion?
CR – To be a world champion is a dream come true and by far is my greatest achievement!
VB – How did the Dominer handle the steep terrain in Andorra?
CR – The new Vitus Dominer is by far the best bike I have ever ridden! The new linkage I am currently testing has made the suspension work so much better under braking, which was perfect for the steep sections in Andorra!
VB – You had a big crash recently, were you ever in doubt that you may not be able to race?
CR – Yea about a month ago I had the biggest crash of my life while training in Fort William and injured my neck and back. It took 2 weeks to get over the pain and through that time I focused on recovery and was using the World Champs as motivation to be strong and ready to race for a medal.
VB – Backing up your 1st place in seeding with a win is a huge achievement, how were the nerves before the race run?
CR – Yea seeding fastest was not the plan, it puts a lot of expectation and pressure on yourself. The nerves I felt for the race was crazy and I’m not sure how I pulled it off! It was just one of those weekends where everything fell into place.
VB – What’s the next big goal?
CR – Maybe retire for real someday, haha!!
