An Post – Chain Reaction dominate the podium at Ras opener

Vitus Bikes sponsored Pro Team An Post – Chain Reaction made their mark on the opening stage of the 2014 An Post Ras taking 1st and 2nd into Roscommon.

Irish-born Robert Jon-McCarthy took the stage win and the first yellow jersey of this year’s race. His team mate, and a stage winner in last year’s Ras, Kiwi Shane Archbold took second place to round off a huge result for the Vitus Bikes backed #Greenmachine.

The An Post – CRC team worked well in the peloton all day with Jack Wilson showing form to make an early break and Sean Downey joining the main escape that went clear for most of the day. Speaking to Irish website Downey said he has no regrets about getting up the road.
“At least I got something out of the breakaway with the four seconds bonuses. You could be up there all day and wasting energy and get nothing. So I’m happy to get something out of it; obviously it’s much better than nothing.”

With the team getting first and second on the stage and Downey up the road giving the rest of the An Posts a free ride and ending the day 4th overall, he said the mood in the camp was very good.
“Everyone’s really happy. It’s a team effort and the team worked perfectly today. You couldn’t ask for much more.”

An Post – CRC now lie 1st, 2nd and 4th in GC with McCarthy in the leader’s jersey.
